About Joanna
Joanna Burke is a mezzo-soprano from Cary, NC. She has appeared most recently in recital for the Cherry Hill Concert Series (2024) and as a semi-finalist at the Heafner-Williams Vocal Competition (2024). She is also a long standing member of the North Carolina Opera chorus, appearing most recently in Florencia en el Amazonas (2025) La Traviata (2023), Manon Lescaut (2022), La Bohème (2022), and several previous productions. In spring 2025, she will return to North Carolina Opera as a chorister for Le Nozze di Figaro.

Joanna trained as a soprano for many years, performing opera and operetta roles in the United States, Canada, and Italy. Past credits include First Lady (Die Zauberflöte), Berta (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Rose Maurrant (Street Scene), Sister Genovieffa (Suor Angelica), Silvia (Zanetto), Catherine (Les Mariage aux Lanternes), and Aline (The Sorcerer).
In addition, she has served as a chorister and choral soloist in both chamber and large symphonic choirs, highlights of which include A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Mendelssohn), A Sea Symphony (Vaughan Williams), Belshazzar's Feast (Walton), and the Passion and Death of Our Lord Jesus Christ According to St Luke (Penderecki).
Joanna holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master of Music from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University.
